‘Write your name as you wish to see it on your diploma’ by katzb

Yesterday I met with my academic advisor to discuss the classes I have left to take next semester. I had a good idea of the few remaining courses, but i wanted to be sure! I have heard of way too many seniors that miscalculated their remaining courses and ended up stuck in school another semester to take one more class. After all the work I have done in the past few years, I was not going to let that happen to me!

My advisor and I figured out the four classes I must take, and the three credits of an elective I can choose. We discussed my job and plans for my future. Because we agreed on the classes I am going to schedule for, my advisor told me I could schedule on DORI next month if I wanted to fill out the form for graduation right then. I agreed, letting me off the hook for trying fit another meeting with my advisor into my schedule.

She handed me the form for graduation, which was pretty simple: name as you with to see it on your diploma, degree, major, minor, permanent address. NAME as you with to see if on your DIPLOMA?! Holy crap. I got kind of nervous at that point. “Am I really ready to be done?” I thought. I even said out loud, “Wow, this is pretty exciting.” My advisor was probably thinking, “Ya, right. People graduate every semester. Big deal.” But for me, it was a big deal. I’ve been taking classes every fall, spring and summer since freshman year and I am finally seeing my hard work pay off.

I just hope, in all the excitement, I spelled my name right on the form! I’ll find out in May when I get my diploma.

My favorite time of year! by katzb

It is my favorite time of year! Scheduling time!

For some reason, I get super excited about being able to see all the options for classes next semester. I could spend hours on DORI going over all the scenarios of classes I could take, and I love how many opportunities there are!

Although we can’t officially start scheduling until the end of October/beginning of November, I already have a short list of classes I am considering taking. Fortunately, at this time in my college career, I have a lot of options as far as what classes I can take. I have worked out my class schedule so I have a lot of room for flexibility next semester, leaving a number of electives and one core class. This way, I can work my class schedule around my work schedule and still get all the required courses necessary.

If you haven’t taken the time to look over the classes offered in the Spring, check out the course listings on DORI under Student Information / Registration / Look up classes. It’s good to have a plan when registration time rolls around, and to have options in case your first choice classes are full.

Now the big questions: whether to take Women’s Fiction or American Literature II….choices choices!
